My circumstances:

A professional with a good credit rating, Id suddenly found myself with £35 debt and no equity whatsoever, though at least I still had a reasonable salary coming in. After several weeks of hiding under the bedcovers, I finally looked around for options. Research quickly told me an IVA was the way out, and I started looking for a company. Of the ones I approached by webform, Clear Debt seemed the most professional.

My interaction with the company:

They set up a telephone call the same evening, and we discussed all the options. The representative agreed that the IVA was the best plan, and explained clearly all the things that would happen -- I was very pleased with the service. The forms came quickly too, though I was a little confused that the name on the pack was not Clear Debt. It took me a while to gather all the information, and though it took a few weeks for them to sort out everything, eventually the IVA was accepted -- by the most slender of margins, apparently! The only tweaking they had to do was a couple of small values. Of course, I was very pleased with the result and would recommend the company to others in the same situation.

Why I gave the ratings I did:

Generally, interaction with the company was excellent. Because of my job, I am very difficult to contact by telephone, and there was some frustration because of missed telephone calls. Much of this, naturally, was due to my inability rather than the company, though overall communication could have been a little better. They could have made more use of email to keep me up-to-date with progress, but the emails they did send were not good and did not even have a return address.

One thing they did - which really impressed me:

They somehow got accepted an IVA for less than Id expected -- very impressive! And for most people, thats the bottom line.

One thing they did - which I felt could be improved:

It took a very long time to get movement and I had to chase them to find out what -- if anything -- was going on, since they didnt confirm theyd received the paperwork or keep me in the loop by email as things progressed. Also, several people worked on my IVA and my contact kept changing without my knowing. Very good on telephone though. The MAIN problem, however, was figuring out exactly what the monthly dividend would be. Every time I telephoned, it had changed -- and nobody had told me. I still didnt have a clear idea what it would be until after the IVA had gone through and been accepted. A scary time!

Other points

The company treated me well at a time of extraordinary stress and panic, and for that I am very grateful. They also got what is the best possible solution to my circumstances, which is also a huge relief. My monthly cost is approximately £250, writing off the vast majority of my debt. I do recommend them, as long as you (the applicant) are not so scared and hassled that you cant keep pushing them on the telephone.
