I am a tax adviser aged 58 living in Hampshire. I had £120,000 of debt owing to various financial institutions which I was struggling to pay off in an informal arrangement. I may have completed this by age 75! I contacted Thomas Charles and their very helpful Julia Simavi introduced me to Grosvenor Partners.
My interaction with the company:
I needed a solution with an end in sight and felt bankruptcy was not an option for employment reasons. An IVA was recommended and after completion of a simple form and discussion with Mark Bassford a workable proposal was arrived at. Some changes were insisted on by the creditors but these were covered by only minor reductions in spending so the proposal was accepted at the creditors meeting. I did not have to attend as all my creditors were banks/credit cards, who normally vote by proxy.
Why I gave the ratings I did:
I rate my insolvency practitioner so highly firstly, because he personally gave me the correct advice and was realistic in what I could hope for and what I could afford to pay and secondly because he then assigned one person, Fariba Fassihi-Rad, to deal with the entire proceedings, who I could contact quickly each and every time I had a problem or query. I was highly impressed with her ability and manner.
One thing they did - which really impressed me:
They obtained the approval of the creditors to payment of my private medical insurance, which I considered necessary in view of a heart problem I have, and the ongoing relationship with my cardiac consultant.
One thing they did - which I felt could be improved:
I can now look forward to being clear of my debts by age 63. My dividend was 38p and approximately £75,000 was written off.
