| My circumstances: |
| We are a couple with a young family. Unfortunately, over the last few years I had been ill and had used credit cards on a regular basis to make me feel better. At first, I thought I had everything under control, but over time we started having to use credit to pay off credit and we ended up with over £30k of debt. My property had been on the market for 2 years but after having to reduce the price by £45k it left us also in negative equity with no funding left to pay off the debts that had mounted up. |
| My interaction with the company: |
| I actually applied for a loan on line initially which led to my name being passed to various companies. One evening I was contacted by Varden Nuttall and asked if I had considered a debt management plan. At the time I was a little bit wary of their contact as I hadnt any knowledge of this company. I was busy at the time but asked them to call again in a couple of days when I had a little more time to go through things in more detail. They contacted me at the time and date they had said and it all progressed from that initial call. |
| Why I gave the ratings I did: |
| I have rated them 9 out of 10 because overall I found them very knowledgeable in the area, very courteous and also very patient and seemed to be genuinely caring. |
| One thing they did - which really impressed me: |
| Great customer service. |
| One thing they did - which I felt could be improved: |
| A little more negotiation around payment amounts. I wasnt too happy with what was agreed as I thought this was still a bit high for what we could personally manage. |
| Other points |
| My current circumstances are that the IVA was accepted at £327.00 per month. Im not too sure of the dividend but I know it was a lot higher than I had originally been advised. I dont think a lot of money is being written off and this is where I disagree with IVAs. If I hadnt been working, then the majority would have been written off, but you do feel a little penalised that you now have "bad credit" for at least 6 years, despite the fact we are paying the majority of the debt off. |
